Jim Gellatly says: Melodic rockers Edgar Road played a blistering set at The Liquid Room in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago for a charity battle of the bands.
Held in aid of SAMH, the Scottish Association for Mental Health, the event raised over £10,000 for the second year running.
Featuring acts from across the country, the north-east band were the furthest travelled. Elgin hasn’t really featured on the musical map in recent years.
Back in the 60s the town hosted many of the greats including The Beatles, The Who and Pink Floyd at The Two Red Shoes ballroom.
Aside from that, Elgin doesn’t have many musical claims to fame. Edgar Road could be the band to change that.
Soaring anthemic rock, coupled with more tender moments, they create a delightful sound. Formed in 2013, they take their name from a local road.
They couldn’t think of anything better! Other names they thought of had been used already. Who knows, maybe in the future people will think the road was named after them!
The band have previously played the Belladrum Festival and showcased at XpoNorth in Inverness. The SAMH Battle of the Bands ranks highly in their achievements so far.

Edgar Road break the mould in so many ways, whilst sitting firmly in the middle of the classic 'Indie pop/ rock' market.
They have been compared to Elbow, Feeder, Deacon Blue, U2 and Strangely ABC. And I get it. They have all of that and more. You see, Edgar Road are what used to be called good time rockers. Like Creedence Clearwater Revival or Wizard, they bring you upbeat, foot-tapping, melody~humming rock.
These Alternative Rockers hail from Elgin, at the very top of Scotland and they have developed their own style in a market that simply loves them and charted these unknowns straight into the top 10 of the Scottish Charts.
Believe me when I say they wont be unknown for long. They are already starting to get Airplay across the globe.
